MISSION STATEMENT
The Columbus Africentric Early College (CAEC), will engage students and their families
through rigorous, challenging and accelerated coursework.
CAEC will provide students with a
high school diploma and 45 to 90 hours toward and Associate of Arts, or an Associate of
Science transfer degree.
Graduates of CAEC will actively pursue and earn a baccalaureate
degree.

All college coursework in the transfer degree, completed with a grade of "C" or better, will
transfer and apply to the baccalaureate requirements of all Ohio state-supported colleges and
universities.
VISION STATEMENT
Columbus Public Schools (CPS) and Columbus State Community College (CSCC) are
partnering to convert the Columbus Africentric School (CASS) into the Columbus Africentric
Early College (CAEC).  The (CAEC) learning community of scholars opened in July 2004 with
its first cohort group of 100 ninth graders.  An African-centered holistic education approach
will address the needs of the learning community with the use of MA’AT, The Nguzo Saba and
the Ten Cardinal Virtues. Utilizing a curriculum that is innovative and embraces unique
approaches, the students will be engaged in challenging high school and college-level work
for credit in order to earn both a high school diploma and an associate of science or arts
degree at the completion of high school.  CAEC will be characterized by its small size and led
b a caring and committed staff.  Every adult associated with CAEC will be a student advisor
and advocate who models a passion for life-long learning.
